Request for Proposals

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

Purpose: To support faculty professional development tied to the University’s mission and strategic plan. 

Awards:  Summer awards may be equal to 1, 2, or 3 LHEs depending on the nature of the proposal and the availability of funds.  Summer teaching is prohibited under terms of summer grant award.

Fall and Spring awards represent a reduction in teaching load.

Activities: To be activities that contribute to the faculty member’s professional development.  Applicant will need to explain carefully contribution to professional development, as well as the liberal learning focus, the University mission, and the University’s VISION 2010 strategic plan.  Examples of activities that qualify include software development, scholarship, research, grant writing, new course development and undergraduate research-initiatives tied to the Liberal Learning Core or First Year initiatives, and/or departmental mission.

Proposals: To conform to content and format of the following:

• a complete description of the project
• a timetable that shows a plan for completion
• a clearly defined specific relationship to the University’s mission and Vision 2010 strategic plan, as well as departmental mission
• the anticipated result, outcome, or product (e.g., grant proposal submitted for funding, draft of a manuscript, development of a new course) and its value to the University and its students
• additional resources that may be necessary to complete the project
• a letter from your Department Chair supporting your proposal

Additional Information: To include the following information from the past three years as an addendum:

• presented papers (includes proceedings) and published papers;
• course revision/development work;
• faculty professional development grants applied for; and,
• faculty development grants received
