Faculty in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are dedicated teachers and researchers committed to developing critical thinking skills in undergraduate students. 

Dr. Quentin Kidd, Department of Government, and his students Herman Diggs, Mehreen Faroq, and Megan Murray co-authored "Black Voters, Black Candidates, and Social Issues: Does Party Identification Matter?", Social Science Quarterly, 88:165-167, 2007.

 

Dr. Joseph Healey, Department of Sociology and   Anthropology has recently published the 4th edition of his book, "Race, Ethnicity, Gender, and Class".

Dr. Rebecca Wheeler, Department of English, and Dr. Raj Chaudhury, Department of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering received a $158,000 grant from the State Council for Higher Education in Virginia for Technology Enhanced Learning of English and Science in Middle School.

Dr. Robert Atkinson, Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Science, received an $80,000 grant from the Nature Conservancy to monitor hydrology and vegetation at 5 wetland restoration projects.

Dr. Brian Puaca, Department of History, and Dr. Stavroula Gailey, Department of Mathematics, each received a Fulbright award to lecture overseas in 2007-2008.

 

Dr. John Thompson, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, authored "Buddhism" as part of the Introduction to the World's Major Religions Series.

 

Dr. Dali Wang in the Department of Physics, Computer Science and Engineering authored "Advanced Fuzzy Logic Technologies in Industrial Applications"
